The (Ober-)Simmental The Simmental ("Tal" means valley), home to the famous Simmental Fleckvieh, reaches from Wimmis near the Lake of Thun to Lenk im the Obersimmental (superior Simmenvalley). The scenery features harmony and dimension. Zweisimmen with its 2953 habitants (31.12.2005) is the main village of the administrative district Obersimmental and lies by the meeting point of the big and small Simme, therefor the name Zweisimmen ("Zwei" means two). Winter In winter the region offers great opportunities for all kind and levels of skiing and snowboarding. The first-class skiing regions Zweisimmen-Gstaad (62 chairlifts and cableways with 250km of slopes) and Lenk-Adelboden (32 chairlifts and cableways, 114km of slopes) satisfy alpine skiers of every age. The surrounding mountains of Zweisimmen offer great opportunities for ski touring as well. Cross-country skiers find perfect conditions to dicover the enchanting winter scenery on the Sparenmoos next to Zweisimmen. If you aren't into skiing, why not have a go on the sledge or go ice-skating? Divers hiking trails bring you into an other world of slowlyness and silence. And what would be better to end the day than a bath in one of the three spas nearby? Summer During the summer season the region is highly recommended for activities like hiking and mountain biking. Countless tracks for every level will offer you a natural experience you'll never forget. On the Rinderberg waits a permanent downhill track for skilled riders. Besides that, the big swimming bath comes up with everything you expect to find at the beach (except the beach). The airfield is a popular starting and landing point for gliders.
